Science and Sustainability Committee

At today's assembly three members of the Junior School Council Science and Sustainability Committee made an announcement to build awareness of the impact waste is having on our environment.  Well done to those students.  This announcement ties in to the Science Week activities the school has been running.

At 7.00am, students assemble at school for a 7.15am coach departure. Our travel today is via the Hume Highway to Albury for lunch (group supplies own lunch today). Then it's on via Yass and the Barton Highway to Canberra for four nights’ accommodation at the Capital Country Holiday Park. Following a 6.30pm dinner, we have use of the conference room for our own activities.

Learning Experiences

In Literacy we have continued examining how political cartoons can be interpreted depending on our prior knowledge.  Differing opinions and assumptions have resulted in some engaging discussions.  Students have also begun bringing in their own cartoons.

This week we began literature discussion groups around shared texts. The students will be looking for connections to their everyday lives while comparing their views and any questions they may have.

In our lead up to Canberra we have begun researching some of the significant sites we’ll be visiting on our stay.   These will be complied into an information brochure.

#All bedding is supplied. Students to bring 2 towels: One for showers and one for the swimming activity. (swimming cap and goggles: optional)

#Please adhere to luggage requirements. (As per information previously sent)

#Students / Adults to bring  their lunch / drinks /snacks and back-pack for the bus journey   (morning tea, lunch , afternoon tea)

#No Lollies to be taken on camp

# All medications / detailed medical plans need to be handed into Kate Braun  on Monday  morning.

What's Happening

Princes Hill Primary School is participating in National Science Week 2015, 15th – 23^rd August, as away of further promoting science in our school. Science activities will be scheduled to run in each neighbourhood next week. We want to encourage children to try more science at home and at school.

We also encourage parents who are interested in science or work in a field of science to come along and talk to the children about the work that they do.  Please contact your child’s teachers to book in a time to organize a talk, demonstration or a hands-on activity that the children can participate in.
